Bright LED Reading
LED downlighters or halogen?
I am considering changing the 240v 50w GU10 halogen bulbs in my lounge and kitchen downlights.
I have been told by a friend to go for 1.8w LED bulbs but am concerned that they may not be bright enough to cook/read/eat/etc under. My friend assures me that they will be.
Has anyone else done what I am considering and if so what do you think?
I am reluctant to order any until I am sure as I have 17 to change and want to avoid an expensive mistake.
If you change 50 watt GU10 to led's you will think you have gone blind, as even the brightest replacements are not nearly as bright. If you want more light, change to low voltage 50 or even 35 watt, as these are nearly twice as bright as mains lamps, watt for watts. If you want economy, replace the 50 watt GU10's with new 40 watt type same light, 20% energy saving. Don't forget that low voltage lamps can have up to 10 times the life of GU10's.
