How do I get rid of this tan?!?

Last summer I was always outside because I was in this sports camp. Since I didn't use a lot of sunscreen or a hat I got tan really easily. My mom told me I got sunburned. I didn't overreact. I just thought that I would return to my original shade a light olive color through the winter.
I was wrong.
I am still the same shade and I have not gotten any lighter. I am so worried it might a be a disease. It is next summer now and it is towards the end. I am becoming more careful and using sunscreen when I go outside but I still seem my same dark sunburnt color. I spoke to a dermatologist and she says give it more time.
I want to accelerate the process somehow. Do any of you users know a product I can use that will return me to my original complexion? I play tennis so I am going to be outside again. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?
I don't know how you can get back to your original skin tone...listen to the dermatologist and give it time. Wait another few months for winter and maybe you'll get lighter this time around.
To prevent it from happening again, wear better sunscreen, wear a hat, stay in the shade as much as possible, drink lots of water, and try to wear a cover up when you're not swimming or anything.
