can a hard drive go bad over time?
since i don't see anyone asking this I'm going to ask... ok heres the problem my computer led light blinking alot more then before, i bought this computer back in 2005 at best buy i haven't upgrade anything to it i do the normal email internet surf ... it don't have any virus or spyware i'm sure i can install slave hard drives unplug everything and put it back together easy i did have virus on it before and restore the pc factory settings i extract alot of compress files before and notice the led light blinking when extracting files so do i need a new hard drive pc specs do i need more ram??

Yes they can go bad!
They are simply platters on a spindle that uses bearings that over time can wear. Although to really answer your question it seems that your hard drive being that new is still in good shape. You probably have a lot of fragmentation, and that is causing the HD to spin a lot to find the info needed.
Run the defrag utility and clean up the hd drive as best you can. You should see a marked improvement right away.
