Does a burned out light bulb consume any energy? ?
At my home, there is a hard-to-reach and ultimately unneeded flood light with a couple of burnt out bulbs. Is there any reason (e.g. energy use) to go through the hassle of removal. If so, should anything be screwed into the socket for safety? Note that turning off the circuit is not an option as some necessary lighting is on the same circuit.
No. The circuit a working light bulb makes while intact is broken. Therefore electricity cannot flow through it. No energy is consumed.
